Sid Eby, was visiting a friend working with a horse in a pasture.   Seeing the mask on the horse, with it's tattered frayed edges, and unraveling of thread, created a question in his mind.   Why would these masks be destroyed so quickly and what kind of new design would function better, with more durability? Sid's inquisitive mind initiated the subject with his son David and together they began to quest for the ultimate designed product with a more qualified material and workmanship.

This also began a six month search by  David, sorting through miles of fabrics, swatches and samples continued to turn up materials too inferior for durability, problems with unraveling or shrinking, tearing and ripping.  The goal was to find mesh-type material that would withstand rigorous use without losing shape, quality or size.   Time and time again, they were told material of this type does not exist. 

Suddenly out of the blue, the perfect material emerged from the most unexpected source and the Guardian Mask was born, of a custom woven nylon fiber mesh that incorporates a unique interlocking design that won't unravel.  Basically, that means each individual stitch is an interlocking knot, creating a strength unlike other fabrics and masks currently on the market.

The next step was to locate materials to compliment the main body of materials, braiding, threads, and hook & loop.  This is when Sid sought the expertise of a designer friend who came through with the ideal products which led to the creation of the first Guardian Mask prototype.  Sid was very excited to then become a nuisance to his friend with the horse ranch.  Measurements were taken from a large variety of horses in various intervals while Sid began to learn the differences in their anatomical structure, but it was also at this time that Sid was able to see the clear vision of being able to make the masks for miniature horses as well.

Shortly after the sizing hurdles is when Sid discovered the need to have the eyes protected up and away from the face and this is when the removable eye covers were invented and it is also when the realization came that these weren't just ordinary masks, these masks had evolved into a therapeutic mask that could be used to help all sorts of problems.

It was at this time that Sid came up with a variety of solutions for medical treatments such as zippers to open the eye cup and blackout patches as well as tabs on the mask to apply insect repellent to rather than on the horses skin itself.  Ideally it was now time to find a marketing expert.  

Leatha Lockhart, through business associates joined Sid and Dave with some unique skills in marketing as well as trade show experience and the mask had begun with an adventure into the world while Sid continued to learn about all of the various eye conditions horses are susceptible to.

Sid, having spent a lot of time at the beach and suddenly had an interesting thought, he mulled over the idea that sunglasses actually helped people that had eye conditions like uveitis, and since horses were susceptible, why wouldn't some sort of UV protection work for them as well?  This is when the revolutionary 95% Sunshades were born.

The Sunshades were the most important discovery in the history of equine care.  And now the path was clear and over the next decade, every customer that used the mask on their horse that had any of the 5 major eye conditions praised the mask for its miraculous therapeutic value and at this time Guardian also found its way on to the world wide web and through years of listening to customers, learning and gathering information, Guardian Mask has grown into a rock solid treatment garment for these horses and also worked as a wonderful preventative that eventually earned its name by customers as the "Gift of Life".

Now a new family member has joined the crusade along with Sid and Dave is Dave's new wife Jeanine who has brought the company up to modern standards and has a multitude of experience in business as well as marketing and now that Guardian Mask has earned its way into being the most successful therapeutic equine product of the century, Sid, Dave and Jeanine have relocated to the great state of Texas and plan to continue to grow and hopefully add new products to help even more horses around the world.
