Señor Pedro Valencia & son Luis Valencia with their
Poney Français de Selle - January 2008
Señor
Valencia contacted Guardian Mask from Colombia South America to get
a bit of help with sizing for their Poney Français de Selle also
known as the "Selle Francais" or "The French Saddle Pony.
Their pony has suffered a great deal with injuries and ulcerations
believed to be brought on by uveitis and while the concerned father
and son team have contacted Guardian Mask for help, at the same
time, they would like to share their experience in hopes of helping
other horse owners and with the intention to give encouragement and
hope.
The
gentlemen are in the process of ordering a mask for their horse and
I will ask if they would be so kind as to update us after they
receive the mask so we can most more of the progress and share.
Señor Valencia and his son Luis are located in Columbia, South
America and this is a new region of contact for Guardian Mask,
and with Luis's enthusiasm we are looking forward to learning the
progress as well as anxious to help his horse with the Guardian Mask
and 95% Sunshades.
In Luis Valencia's
words: - "He injured his eye (this is what we think) while
playing with his neighbour, he was being treated for several months
and the diagnosis was: Uveitis, corneal and micotic ulceration. we
think he was treated correctly and now he recovered his sight.
Some weeks ago showed up a superficial corneal edema in the other
eye, but no ulceration seems to be growing. It seems to be the horse
has injured himself in his box stall with the columns where the door
is supported, and we installed a higher bar to avoid him to show his
head and avoid the risk of injury again.
For the time being he is being treated and seems to be healing, but
we want him to wear the protection mask all day long to avoid new
events to happen.
Hi Vee, thanks a lot for
your comments and guidance in this subject, not exactly explained by
vet as you wrote. I spoke to him again and he says to confirm the
horse has Uveitis, but in all horses he has treated, the illness has
not come back, but says he nature of the illness is to reappear, so
that the scientific name includes the word "periodic"...
The pink tissue you see
around the eye is because, as part of the treatment, the eye was
sutured for 2 months to avoid daylight to worsen the eye condition
and additionally it was the only way to put the medicaments into the
eye. A small part of the eye was left opened to introduce the drops
and gel into the eye, 24 hours a day hour after hour we had to put a
recipe of medicaments into the eye (see the picture).

Be forewarned
that the images are quite graphic.
After these first 2 months was made a fake internal eyelid of
conjunctive tissue (from the called third eyelid) to help the cornea
heal and get scar since the cornea does not have vascularization by
itself. This helped a lot, the horse was treated for 4 months (total
time) and after that we began to jump again. We have continued to
treat him with natural products as sugarcane juice, fine sugar and
honey to make the scar disappear, and let me tell you that it is
notoriously reduced. (as we call it: Grandmothers prescription).
First vet said to me: The eye has to be removed, there is no way
back, the eye is lost, most of them do not know how to treat an eye.
Suddenly appeared and experienced one (think the best in Cali my
city) and said: There is a way, only money and patience are needed,
with effort both were got and it went as expected. I will place my
case in the I/net including pictures and the whole treatment to help
people who do not have any hope."
